About Indian Beverages
No cuisine is complete without beverages. Indian Cuisine also contains a number of beverages. Unlike the American and European countries, the staple beverage in India is tea. There are several varieties that are grown in the country. Hilly areas like Darjeeling in West Bengal and Assam is the largest grower of tea.
However, tea is not as popular in Southern part of the country as it is in other parts of India. South Indian people prefer coffee as their favorite beverage and South Indian Recipes contain several types of preparations of coffee like hot, cold, cream and so on. The finest variety of Coffea Arabica is grown in Mysore in the state of Karnataka.
Other beverages favored by Indians include Lassi, Sarbat, doodh badam (a combination of milk and nuts) and these are most popular in the North western parts of the country. It has become customary in dinners and banquets to either precede or follow the Indian Food with some beverages.
These beverages in India are consumed with several variations like the masala chai where spices boiled in milk are added to tea or cream coffee where milk cream is specially added to coffee. The latest craze is lemon tea and lemon coffee where no milk and little or no sugar are used. Since most Indian Recipes are consumed in combination with some hot drinks like tea and coffee, these two items have become household articles throughout the country.
